COMMENTS

     The entries for "Walter Woodworth" have conflicting information, and conflicting dates of much belated entries, with some as recently as 1988.  It appears that anyone can drop by the cathedral's record entry registration books and enter any information they personally think is appropriate.

     It appears that the records for Walter Woodworth and "Mrs Walter Woodworth were entered in 1916 and/or 1917, and not in the early 1600s.  Certainly at the time of the birth of Walter's wife (wives), 1611 and 1622, they would not be known at their birth as "Mrs. Walter Woodworth".  One entry lists her name as "Dorothy".   They would certainly have known her first name if they were recording her birth date at the time of her birth.  Further, it appears that one group of entries were made by an alleged relative, "Frank E. Caldwell".

     It appears also that any Woodworth shown in the microfiche with only a year, such as 1611 or 1612 or 1635, etc, instead of a complete date is an invalid entry by a misguided "helper" whose "help" has resulted in record error and confusion.

 
     A Google of "Frank E. Caldwell" brings up these entries (below) on different web pages.  It seems he was a medical doctor, possibly a Mormon as he sent records to Salt Lake City, signed death certificates in England during World War I, and compiled at least one cemetery record.

     "Frank E. Caldwell" was very prolific at entering his information as a "relative" or "friend of the family" in records everywhere.   He must have thought he was "helping" genealogy as a Mormon.  The date "Frank E. Caldwell" entered in Canterbury records for Walter was 1916 and 1917, the war years.  He was definitely in England during that time, as he was signing off on death certificates in England during that time, according to some forum posts.

During the past couple of days, I have been merrily extracting all
GILMOUR, GILMER, GILMORE, &tc entries [with County Armagh interest in
particular, and from neighbouring counties] from the IGI (International
Genealogical Index). A dozen or so handwritten ledger sheets later, I
sat down to review my findings [listed below, after the signature].

While writing out the IGI entries, I noticed that a Frank E Caldwell was
listed as the relative for a few Gilmour&variant deaths. Was he the
family lawyer? an undertaker? a nephew through a sister? How could he
have been related to or involved with these four Gilmore/Gilmour people
from three different counties?

Then I saw the dates for these four deaths: 1915 through 1918. Over at
the CWGC (Commonwealth War Graves Commission) web site, I found these
men listed as World War I casualties. A sad reckoning, regardless of
the years that have passed.

So, have you encountered Mr Frank E Caldwell in your family history
research? Does anyone know who he was, what (unenviable) post he
occupied?

CONCLUSION:
 

Therefore, one can only conclude that "Frank E. Caldwell" entered the subject records
in Canterbury Cathedral for "Walter Woodworth" and "Mrs Walter Woodworth in 1916
and 1917 based on what he had read, probably from the book by William Atwater Woodworth
written in 1898.

The random entries made in other records by Frank E. Caldwell show that he was a
very busy man at faking records around the United Kingdom, and that Walter's and
"Mrs Walter Woodworth" were not the only records he faked.
 

Obviously, the data for Walter and wife are faked, as they only have the word "about"
 in lieu of dates, and no listed parish as provided for other names that do have specific
dates.    And further, it's obvious that no person would be born with the
name "Mrs Walter Woodworth"!!!

Data for other listed Woodworths would have more credibility, having specific dates and
parishes.

In any case, Al Schultz's providing this microfilm is much appreciated so that we can

analyze the record.  The parishes listed in the records of Canterbury Cathedral for
the other valid Woodworths give us clues as to which parishes might list Woodworths in
the late 1500s and early 1600s.
